About Us
The Coalition of New York State School Board Members was founded during a challenging period, born out of the need for support and collaboration as school boards navigated the complex COVID-19 mandates. We noticed something important—superintendents, business officials, and nearly every other educational position had structured networks where they could meet, share ideas, and learn from one another. But what about Boards of Education? That’s where we saw a gap.
Our coalition was created to fill that void, offering school board members a space to collaborate, share best practices, and strengthen their roles within their districts. We are not in competition with other school board organizations; instead, we provide something unique. We focus on the practical aspects of being a board member, from hiring and evaluating superintendents to drafting goals, managing relationships, and navigating governance challenges. We want to ensure that you have the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions for your community and your students.
One of our core missions is to keep school boards informed about regulations and policies that affect them. Whether it’s changes in state laws, new educational guidelines, or other significant updates, we ensure that our members stay aware and prepared.
Our coalition is built on the belief in local control. We are here to empower school boards to make decisions that best reflect the values and needs of their communities, without the imposition of external ideologies. We want to help you become the best board member you can be, so that together, we can positively shape the future of education across New York State.
We hope you will join our coalition, as we are committed to being a useful resource to help you succeed in your role and make a lasting impact.
