2nd Annual Legislative Breakfast January 31, 2026

The Coalition of New York State School Board Members hosted its 2nd Annual Legislative Breakfast, bringing together school board members and elected officials for a meaningful discussion about the challenges facing public education and the importance of preserving local control.

The event provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships between school board members and legislators, exchange ideas, and explore ways to work together to support students, families, and the communities we serve.

As part of the program, the Coalition recognized individuals and organizations whose leadership has made a meaningful impact:

• 2026 Legislative Partner Award – Presented to Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz for his principled leadership, responsiveness to local communities, and commitment to preserving local decision-making in public education.

• 2026 Courage in Leadership Award – Presented to Margaret Marchand for her steadfast leadership, moral courage, and unwavering commitment to students, parents, and community values. "Perhaps you were made for such a time as this." — Esther 4:14

• 2026 Community Impact Award – Presented to the Plainedge Board of Education in recognition of its positive and lasting impact on students, families, and the community through thoughtful leadership and service.

The Legislative Breakfast reflected the Coalition's mission to educate, support, and empower school board members while fostering productive partnerships with policymakers to strengthen public education across New York.
